William  “Bill”  Walman Oct. 9, 1929 – Feb. 14, 2011 William “Bill” Walman was born at Astoria, Oregon on the 9th day of Oct., 1929.  He passed away on Feb. 14th at Salem.  He was 81,  the son of Jesse  and Esther Walman. Bill graduated from Astoria high school .  He was married to Audrey Basel on March 4, 1951 in Astoria.  He was  a charter member and past President  of the Kiwanis, and member of the Elks Club.  He had volunteered at the Willamette Valley Vineyard. Bill had served as a corporal for the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  He received medals for occupation in Japan, Korean service and combat infantry. They moved to Portland in 1952.  They worked together at the Gateway Florist in Portland. He later worked as an office manager for Pacific Power and Light. They then moved to Stayton, Salem, Pendleton, Hood River, The Dalles and Idaho before settling in Salem  10 yrs. ago.  Audrey preceded him in death in June of 2010. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Santiam Golf Club.  He also enjoyed woodworking. He is survived by his daughters, Peggy Jo  (Dan) Glidewell of Keizer, Kristin Espell of Stayton; sister,Marjorie Brockey of Astoria, ; 3 grandchildren, Erika Espell, Shane Glidewell and Samantha Espell. Memorial service will be Sat. Feb. 19th at 1:00 pm  at the Astoria Christian Church, Astoria , OR. Private interment at Oceanview Cemetery in Astoria.
