Wayne Frank Cates July 8, 1926 September 5, 2016 Sublimity, Oregon Wayne Frank Cates, 90, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 5, 2016. He was born on July 8, 1926 in Beemer , Nebraska to Archie and Anna Cates. He attended the Stratton, Nebraska public schools. Upon graduation he enlisted in the Navy. At the end of WWII, he entered the University of Nebraska and graduated with a degree in Business. He married his wife Elinor in 1951. Together they raised 3 children. They spent over 20 years in Southern California where Wayne worked as a corporate accountant. The family moved to Oregon in 1978 to a small farm near Scio and in 1993 they moved to Sublimity. Wayne was very active in church work as well as civic organizations. He was named Sublimity Man of the Year in 1994 and Lion of the Year in 1998. He is remembered as a devoted father to his surviving sons Archie of Santa Rosa, CA, and Jon of Sublimity, as well as 7 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. His wife Elinor and daughter Diane preceded him in death. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 9 at 3:00 p.m. at Providence Cemetery in Scio.
