Virginia Mae Hutchins, 91, passed away on November 18, 2019 in Jefferson, OR. She was born on February 15, 1928 in Jackson Hole, WY to Julius Augustus and Ida (Elsie) Moore. The family moved to California for a brief period, before settling in Oregon in 1940. Virginia graduated from Corvallis High School in 1946. Virginia met her future husband, Michael Hutchins, while living next door to one of his relatives. They wed on December 15, 1954 and had two children. They shared a wonderful life together – they enjoyed traveling around the world (with Alaska being one of her favorite destinations). They took cruises, road trips and group tours which they greatly enjoyed. Virginia also enjoyed golfing, and she spent many years as a member of a local bowling team. Virginia worked as a school bus driver – she was very talented, and even participated in the Oregon State Bus Driver “Roadeo”. She was the 1978 champion, and she attended the National Championship in Niagra Falls! She retired after 15 years of service. Virginia was a very special lady – she was strong, independent and loved animals. One example of her independent nature took place when she was young, and Michael was stationed in Germany in the Army. She had never traveled before, but she wanted to see him. She, along with her beloved dog, took a train to the East Coast. From there, they boarded a ship to Germany to be reunited with him. It was a long, somewhat nerve-wracking trip, but she made it!  Virginia will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son David Hutchins and her sister Gwen Rickert. She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Michael Hutchins; her daughter, Teresa Harmsworth (husband, Colin); her nephews, Bob Hutchins, Kenneth and Robert Rickert and nieces Katy Hathaway and Kim Jackson plus grandchildren, Samantha and Alysha.
