After a long and full life, Vincent Peter Pietrok, died at age 98 yrs. on January 18, 2019 in Salem, OR. He was born Nov. 25, 1920, in Stayton, OR to parents John Peter Pietrok and Elizabeth Ann Zielinski. Vince experienced a life of incredible change, spanning transportation that began with the days of horseback riding to school, to watching man land on the moon. Communications started with the first phones and TV to, at the age of 90, experiencing travel via the worldwide web. Vincent grew up on the family farm in the Kingston-Lyons, OR area. He joined the Navy and served on the USS Portland, surviving many South Pacific battles including the Battle of Guadalcanal. After WWII Vince married Junetta Barbara Freres on Oct. 16, 1946. They made a home in the Turner, OR area, where together they raised 4 children. Family vacations were spent traveling the northwest and most National Parks. They enjoyed square dancing and traveling in club activities. Vince worked with dedication on his farm and seasonally worked in the Burkland sawmill in Turner. In 1987 they retired and moved to Sublimity. Then they enjoyed traveling the world as ambassadors with the Friendship Force in Asian and European countries, as well as Australia and New Zealand. He enjoyed volunteering for many years at the Stayton Historical Museum, and delivering Meals-On-Wheels to local residents. Vincent was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 70 years, Junetta of Sublimity, on August 5, 2015 and brothers: Norbert, George and Elbert, all of Stayton, David and Aaron Pierce (grandsons). Vincent is survived by his children, Charlene Pierce of Sublimity, OR, Doug (Vera) Pietrok of San Jose, CA, Sandra (Loren) Chapman of Milwaukie, OR and Joyce (Larry Jr., deceased) Larson of Salem, OR, 7 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. At Vincent's request, private military interment to be held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, where he will rejoin with Junetta.
