VERLON L. TAYLOR Oct. 21, 1930 – Jan. 13, 2011 Aumsville, Oregon Resident Verlon Taylor was born at Evansville, Indiana on the 21st day of October, 1930. He passed away on Thursday the 13th at Aumsville. He was 80. The son of Harry and Mabel Taylor. Verlon was raised in Mayfield, Indiana before moving to Belflower, California. He served 9 yrs. in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was married to Ellen L. Taylor on June 28, 1959 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Stardust Hotel Casino Wedding Chapel. They moved to Southern, Oregon in July of 1962 after having lived in Dolan Springs, Arizona and Searchlight, Nevada. He had worked as a laborer for the BLM, having help build the Pacific Crest Trail. He became disabled in 1963. He served as a volunteer for the Josephine county rural fire dept. in the 1980’s. He lived in McMinnville and was active at the Senior Center. Ellen preceded him in death on Dec. 12, 1988.He moved to Aumsville 1 yr. ago. He enjoyed fishing , camping and woodworking. He is survived by thirteen children; Shirley Ash, Jerry Newton, Patricia Lieb, Neil Newton, Mark Newton, Richard Newton, Roger Newton, Susan Mckay, Wendi Ann Doty, Marsha Taylor, Nancy Powell, Charles Taylor and Thelma Fisher. He is also survived by 45 grandchildren along with numerous great and great-great grandchildren. He is survived by his long time friend and companion Mary Hyde of McMinnville. He was preceded in death by his sons, Randy and Bob. Funeral honors will be held at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland. Arrangements entrusted to Weddle Funeral Services.
