Verlin Dean Reed, a longtime resident of Scio, Oregon, went to be with the Lord on December 6th, 2009 at 11 am. He passed away of natural causes in the comfort of his home at the age of 86. Born in 1923 to a farming family in rural White County, Indiana, he went on to pursue an engineering degree at Purdue University. His studies were interrupted, however, by World War II, and he and his college roommate enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1943. Thereafter, Dean Reed became a squadron leader at the age of 21, and as a Captain he led 21 B-17 bombing missions that helped cripple Germany
