Velleda M. Walz Velleda was born July 27, 1919 in Salem, Oregon to Thomas and Elsie Trick.  She joined four brothers on the family farm south of Salem in the community of Rosedale. In 1948, Velleda Trick and Edward Walz were married in Salem where Velleda worked at the Department of Motor Vehicles until her real career began – raising her five children.  In 1954 the family moved to Mehama with Joanne, Dorothy, and twins Darrell and Carol.  Youngest son, Mike joined the family the following year. After the children were grown, Ed & Velleda started traveling around the Northwest and other destinations, usually to visit family and friends.  After Ed passed away in 1995, Velleda continued her love of travel and was always looking for new destinations.  She often bragged that “Go!” was her middle name and was always ready to “go along for the ride”, no matter where you were headed.  Family gatherings for holidays and birthday celebrations meant a lot to Velleda.  She also enjoyed spending time with friends playing cards, going out for lunch, or taking a chance at the casino.  Her level of activity was impressive and even at the age of 90; Velleda would often be seen riding a bike on her way to pick up mail. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers Ormal, Carl, and Elvin.  Velleda is survived by her children: Joanne (Gordy) McMorris of Silverton, Dorothy (Dave) Keasey of Mill City, Carol (Jon) Bates of Salem, Darrell (Patty) Walz of Bend and Mike Walz of Salem.  She leaves behind seven grandchildren: Jill McMorris, Brian (Jennifer) McMorris, Erin (Joel) Neria, Jeff Bates, Hayley, Joe and Rex Walz and one great granddaughter Lilli Neria, in addition to many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother Virgil Trick of Dallas Oregon. Funeral services will be on Friday, October 1 2010 at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church in Stayton with interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Stayton.  A luncheon reception will be held at St. Patrick’s Hall in Lyons.  Donations in memory of Velleda can be made to the Mehama Fire Department or to a charity of your choice.  Arrangements are being made by Weddle Funeral Services in Stayton.
