Twyla Rae Jones

Twyla Rae Jones was born January 9, 1925, in Boulder, Colorado. She was the youngest of four daughters born to Arthur and Edith Masters. Twyla spent her childhood in Boulder and graduated from Boulder High School before heading off to business school. While working the bookstore at the University of Colorado, Twyla met Thomas Soll and the two were married on Christmas day, 1947, in Kansas City. They lived in Kansas City for four years before returning to Boulder, Colorado, where they raised their only child, James. Thomas owned a GE appliance store and Twyla worked along side him as his office assistant. The store did quite well and Thomas earned several trips from GE for his sales achievements, allowing him to take Twyla to Hawaii, Europe, and Mexico all expenses paid. The two also enjoyed the outdoors and camping all over their beautiful home state of Colorado in the camper they owned. Although she did work with Thomas at the store, Twyla was a homemaker and enjoyed caring for their son and the family home. Through the years, Twyla was very close to all of her sisters who also lived in Boulder with their families. For the holidays they would all get together and have a wonderful time together eating and enjoying each other’s company. After Thomas retired, they sold their home and traveled around managing hotels for LaQuinta and Red Lion, and by the time they were through with that venture, they ended up in Tucson where Twyla’s sisters had gone to retire. They spent some time in Texas as well, near Thomas’ family, and when Thomas passed in 1986, he was laid to rest in Fort Worth, Texas. Twyla spent many years in Tucson enjoying time with her sisters. She married James Jones in 1991 and they snow-birded between Colorado and Arizona for several years. After James passed in 2005, Twyla remained in Arizona until 2018 when she moved to Oregon to be near her son. Twyla was a people person and loved to socialize, making friends easily. She was a bridge player her whole life and played often over the years in the active communities she lived in, especially with her friends in Tucson. Twyla had a keen sense of style and always dressed well. On Christmas eve, the eve of her wedding anniversary with Thomas, Twyla passed away in Sublimity, Oregon, at the age of 95. She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Edith; her husband Thomas; her second husband James; and her sisters Ardelle (Oris) Delka, Juanita (Bob) Wills, and Gwen (Gill) Noreen. Twyla is survived by her son James (Peggy) Soll; grandchildren Jon (Kylee) Soll, Kirk Soll, and Carmell Soll; and great-grandchildren James, Jeremy, Alec, and Jadyn. Twyla will be laid to rest next to Thomas at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth, Texas.
