Sue Riddle

February 25, 1943 — March 26, 2023

Alicia Sue Riddle, affectionately known as Sue, passed away in Corvallis, Oregon, on March 26, 2023. Born on February 25, 1943, in Compton, California, Sue was a loving, kind, and thoughtful woman who touched the lives of many throughout her 80 years.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Horatio and Alvirda (Rutherford) Davison, and her younger sister, Roberta. She is survived by her devoted husband Mike, and her five children. Sue was a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom she cherished deeply.

A lifelong educator, Sue attended college to become a teacher and spent her career shaping young minds and inspiring a love for learning. Sue's dedication to her students was evident in the long-lasting connections she made throughout her teaching career, including with many foreign exchange students who she remained in touch with long after they returned to their home countries. As the famous poet William Butler Yeats once said, "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire," and Sue was indeed a passionate and skilled firestarter.

Sue's love for her family extended beyond the classroom and into her hobbies. A talented quilter, she held her quilting friends close to her heart and found great joy in creating beautiful keepsakes for her loved ones. Each of her grandchildren received a special graduation quilt from Sue, a testament to her thoughtfulness and the value she placed on education. Her kindness and generosity were felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of choice, some of Sue’s favorites were Doctors without Borders, CARDV and Chef Andres’ World International Kitchen.

Sue's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her legacy of love, kindness, and thoughtfulness will live on in the lives she touched. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who carry her memory. As Helen Keller once said, "What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us."
