Steve was born to Dorthea Jean (Mulkey) and Harold Sorensen. He grew up in small timber communities around western Oregon, but called Garibaldi and the Lacomb area home. He went to work for Harris-Tunison Auto as what he called the "squeak & rattle" guy. Steve served in Vietnam and returned home to buy 5 acres and raise a family on Crabtree Creek in Scio. He taught auto mechanics at LBCC and served on the Scio School Board. He was a member of the Boilermakers Union, working throughout the northwest. He later built Sorensen, Inc with his son Mike. He learned to play guitar and joined the Northwest Blues Association. He bought a Harley and rode hundreds of thousands of miles, in big circles and small. Steve valued service to the Veteran community, participating in children's toy rides, Veteran's Day parades and Honor escorts when remains of servicemen were returned from Middle East wars. He is survived by brother Jon and family, son Michael and family, daughter Darcy and family, ex-wife Dee and family. Preceded in death by first wife Doris and his parents. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to local Veteran's services organizations or local children's charities.
