Sofia Jennifer Pospisil, September 17, 1983 to July 16, 2023. Born in Corvallis, Oregon to Brenda Lee Dickey and Lubomir Pospisil, Sofia is survived by her parents, her brother Mik Pospisil, sister Kate Pospisil, step parents Barbara Newton and Ann Robinson, her Oregon Country Fair Family and many others who loved her.
Sofia, graduated from Corvallis High School in 2001 and with a BS in Science from Oregon State University in 2014. Sofia studied Spanish in high school and college. She enhanced her understanding with a summer in Bolivia working with indigenous peoples and a term in college on a project in Mexico, helping an indigenous village develop clean water. For many years Sofia worked in the service industry in Corvallis as a feisty bar tender at China Delight, waitress and personal caregiver, developing many friendships and much respect.
In her youth Sofia was an avid skier, competitive swimmer and diver. In her twenties and thirties her interests moved toward music of all kinds. For many years, she made an annual pilgrimage to the New Orleans Jazz Festival and since her teens could often be seen moving to the music of Portland and Eugene area bands. For more than a dozen years Sofia actively worked at the Country Fair, most recently supporting the Fair's garden crew. She loved to work in the dirt but even more, she loved to cook for others, experimenting with new recipes, showing her love through her generous presentation of food. In her 30s she started diving into her Czech heritage and baking treats for her family.
Sofia loved animals and left her sweet pup Fozzie, to her dear friend Ben to treasure for her.
In 1999, Sofia risked her own safety to rescue a car fire victim. Her heroic act did not go unnoticed, and she was honored with an award from the Rotary Club. That bravery and selflessness defined her character and left a lasting impact on those around her. Though she died in Portland most of her life was spent in Corvallis, close to her family who love her deeply and wish they could still hold her close.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a time and place still to be determined. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Oregon Country Fair Culture Jam Program or the charity that you choose in her memory.
