Shirley was born August 26, 1927 in South Beloit, Illinois to George and Tina (Heideman) Archer. She grew up in Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin. She met her husband Chris Haley, through her aunt and cousins who had been acquainted with him for some time. Chris would take Shirley’s cousins to the movies and help their family when needed and her family thought to fix the two of them up. Shirley was not in love with the idea at first. However, once they met there was chemistry. Shirley and Chris married on March 7, 1947 and recently celebrated their 72nd Wedding Anniversary. Together, they began a family and were blessed with eight children. Shirley was an amazing mother; she took care of her children’s needs in addition to the family home and somehow figured out how to balance it all. Additionally, she was an exceptional cook who made the best baked goods such as fresh bread, donuts, cakes and pies. Her pie crust was perfect and unlike any other. She truly had a talent for baking and the loved could be tasted in everything she made. She was also known for her potato salad and that would get requested for family functions. Shirley was an avid reader and her favorite genre was murder mysteries. She read so many books and read them so quickly, that sometimes she would re-read them. In 1965, she and Chris decided to move their family to California. As their children grew up, they decided to relocate to Oregon. Besides, a brief moved back to California, Shirley and Chris lived in Jefferson and Shaw areas. Shirley passed away at age 91 in Independence, Oregon on March 11, 2019. Her entire life the constant that everyone is reminded of is how dedicated she was to her family, they were her whole focus. She was preceded in death by her two sons, Lee Patrick Haley and Bruce L.
