Turner – Shirley Jean Atkinson, age 79, of Turner, Oregon, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2021. Shirley was born in Lebanon, Oregon, to Leo Marvin Frank Egg and Dorthy Emileen (Stillwell) Egg on September 27, 1941. She was raised in Redmond, Oregon, and graduated from Redmond High School in 1959. Shirley married Arthur Glen Atkinson and they had a son and two daughters together. She had many adventures in Idaho, Arizona, and Nevada before coming home to Oregon in 1976. Shirley was a very gifted crafter which included ceramics, painting (toll, oil, and pastels), jewelry making, sewing, quilting, embroidery, needleworking, knitting, crocheting, macrame, and cross stitching. Some of her creations will be on display at the Stayton Library in the future. She was also a talented musician and played the accordion in high school and played the organ beautifully her whole life. Shirley enjoyed being outside gardening, fishing, and camping. She loved spending time with her family and many friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; her parents Leo and Dorothy; her brother Leo Jr; and her grandson Jonathon Allen Ortwine. She will be missed dearly and loved always by the family she leaves behind including children Rita (Patrick) Ortwine of Turner, Aaron (Kassie) Atkinson of Camas, Washington, and Debbie Atkinson of Silverton; her sister Agnes (Bruce) DeLoff of Bend; and grandchildren Shaylee Ortwine of Turner, Patrick “PJ” of Aumsville, Britney, Kelsie, Ashton, Paxton, Georgia, and Greson. The family would like to thank the Signature Hospice team for their kind and compassionate help with Shirley’s care. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Stayton Library in Shirley’s name to honor her love of reading.
