Shirlee Jeanette Brown, born on September 14, 1928, in Salem, Oregon, to Edna and Roy Lively, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2024. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and dedication to her family and community.
Shirlee’s life was marked by her unwavering commitment to service. Her career spanned various roles, including working for the Department of Forestry and handling Workman’s Compensation cases. As a secretary for the Department of Justice, she demonstrated exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
Beyond her professional life, Shirlee was deeply connected to nature and animals. She actively participated in several environmental and humanitarian organizations, advocating for conservation and animal welfare. Her green thumb was evident in her beautiful garden, where she spent countless hours nurturing plants and flowers.
Music was another love of Shirlee’s life. She enjoyed listening to a wide range of genres and often sang along while playing the piano. Her evenings were often spent cheering for the Portland Trail Blazers, a team she followed with enthusiasm.
Shirlee’s greatest joy came from her family. She is survived by her children: Debbie (Brown) Stanley, Rebecca (Brown) Davis, Apryl (Brown) Buchholz, and Mitchell Brown. Her siblings, Sydney (Lively) Neighbours and Virginia (Lively) Rickard, also mourn her passing. Shirlee’s legacy extends to her grandchildren: Milo, Margo, Justin, Tracey, Adrian, Nicole, Terry, Conner, and Jordan. Additionally, she leaves behind great-grandchildren: Kacie, Jewelian, Joseph, Calvin, Clover, Leah, Barron, Tristan, Tess, Tara, Antonio, and Kaleb.
Shirlee was predeceased by her parents, brother Dale, and sisters Joyce and Betty. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Nature Conservancy or the Oregon Humane Society, causes close to her heart.
