Samuel Ernest Mccartt

Samuel “Sam” Ernest McCartt, born on October 9, 1959, in Springfield, Ohio, passed away on February 5, 2024, in Stayton, Oregon, after a brief illness. He was the son of Edith Ernestine Hughett and Paul McCartt. Sam spent his formative years in the company of his siblings, Sandra and Steven.

Throughout his life, Sam resided primarily in Oregon and Washington, with the last three years finding him at home in Aumsville. He pursued higher education at Oregon State University and Western Oregon University (WOU), setting the stage for a fulfilling career.

Sam discovered immense satisfaction as a volunteer EMT/Firefighter, dedicating himself to saving lives and serving his community. Additionally, he worked as a poker dealer at various casino’s, including Spirit Mountain, Chinook Winds, and Ilani, a role that showcased his exceptional mathematical prowess. His intelligence and quick wit made him a respected figure in all aspects of his life.

Sam was blessed to be a loving father to Jessica, Zachary, Amy, and Rebecca. As a father, Sam could be described as a hero, protector, and sacrificed everything for his children. He passed on those values and integrity to his children. His unconditional love extended to his grandchildren, Olivia, Rylee, Kaden and baby boy Farrell due in 2024, Noah, Ryan, Riley, Leo, Penny, and Zack.

Apart from his professional pursuits, Samuel was an avid sports enthusiast, finding joy in activities such as golf, football, soccer, and faithfully followed the Blazers, Mariners, and Seahawks. He loved the beauty of nature in our National Parks and wanted to travel to more of them in the future.

Known for his extraordinary sense of humor, Samuel was cherished by many, and his loss is deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He departed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones who had the opportunity to share quality time with him during his last days.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his children, Jessica (CJ) Farrell, Zachary (Ally) McCartt, Amy (Rod) Smalley, Rebecca (Adam) Jensen; grandchildren, Olivia, Rylee, Kaden and baby boy Farrell, Noah, Ryan, Riley, Leo, Penny, Zack; sister Sandra Wilkinson, and brother Steven McCartt in addition to many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced.
