Sally Jean Skriver, 87, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2019 in Albany, Oregon. She was born on July 22, 1932 in Chico, California to Charles and Sally (Michaels) Helphenstine. From a young age, Sally was a very hard worker. She left school to help raise her siblings during the Depression. When she was 14, she met her future husband, Leland Skriver. They wed in 1949, when she was 16. Leland was enlisted in the United States Navy during this time, so she lived with Leland’s parents. Leland was honorably discharged in 1952, and he returned to Oregon. Leland and Sally moved around the Pacific Northwest until they bought a home and settled in Agate Beach in 1964, where they raised their family. They had 4 children: Jack, Steve, Martin and Aileen. Sally worked for the Oregon Oyster Company for 25 years. She loved living at the beach and she enjoyed watching the ocean and watching her children surf, as well as watching Aileen and “The Girls”. She loved the annual hunting trip that the family took to Eastern Oregon. She especially enjoyed camping, being in the great outdoors, and serving as a Cub Scout Den Mother. Sally loved spending time with her family, and she would often get together with her siblings and in-laws, and they would play and sing country music! Leland would play his guitar and sing to her as well.  Leland passed away in 1989, and Sally never remarried. In 1998 Sally moved to The Valley to be with Aileen and her boys, where she lived until her passing. Sally enjoyed gardening in her later years and had a beautiful garden that she tended to. Sally will always be remembered as a “Momma Bear” to the many children she took care of over the years. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, he son Martin, and siblings Charlene Lancaster and Michael Helphenstine. She is survived by her sons, Jack and Steve Skriver; daughter, Aileen Muscutt; grandchildren, Madison Skriver, Maija Skriver-Blue, Shannon Skriver, Kyle Muscutt, Jarred Muscutt and Kelly Anderson; as well as many beloved great grandchildren.
