Robert Clyde Hunsinger

Robert Clyde Hunsinger was born on January 3, 1926 in Astoria, Oregon to Clyde and Gertrude (Munker) Hunsinger. Robert was known as Bumper by his close friend and family while growing up in Astoria. He attended Astoria High School and during his senior year of high school was drafted. He joined the United States Navy and honorably served from 1944 to 1946 and was discharged as a Fireman First Class. He met Norma DuPont at a dance in Seaside, Oregon and they dated for two years until their marriage on July 17, 1954 in Longview, WA. They had 3 children, Trinette, Margaret and Donna. Robert lived in Astoria his entire life, he worked at the Tuna factory, and commercial fished. He even owned his very own boat. Robert also was a carpenter and remodeled many homes over his years. Robert was a member of the Elks Lodge and American Legion Post in Astoria. For 25 years he and his wife became snowbirds and would live part of the year in Yuma, Arizona. Robert was incredibly generous and showed incredible love for his children and grandchildren. Robert passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2018 surrounded by family in Sublimity, Oregon at age 92. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma on July 27, 2005 after 51 years of marriage. Robert is survived by his children, Trinette (Bradley) Steigleder of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Margaret (Jim Kacalek) Hunsinger of Sublimity, Oregon and Donna (Brad) Stevens of Auburn, Washington; brother, Eugene (Marie) Hunsinger of Gresham, Oregon; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren in addition to several nieces and nephews. A service will military honors will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 12pm in Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
