Robert (Bob) Booth Martin II, 80, of Albany, OR passed away at home, surrounded by his family on August 21, 2022, after a lengthy health battle fighting well over a dozen years for each breath.
Bob was born on December 3rd, 1941, to the late Robert Booth Martin and Francesca (LoCoco) Martin in Honolulu, HI at Tripler General four days before the bombing of Pearl Harbor making him one of the youngest Pearl Harbor survivors leaving many to say he entered the world with a bang! After graduating from Galileo High School in San Francisco, CA in 1959. Bob went on to study history at San Francisco State University and education at Sonoma State University. He received his Master’s in Education at Oregon State University. Bob received a California Lifetime Teaching Certificate and Bob taught and coached football at the high school and collegiate level before leaving coaching to become self-employed. Bob had many business ventures, but his passion was in land and land development.
Bob cited joining the Navy in 1960 as one of his best lifetime decisions. Bob served as both a jet mechanic and a navigator on a P2V in the Naval Air. He was called up for both the Berlin and the Cuban Missile Crisis and spent many years in the Naval Reserves. This decision helped fund Bob’s education and provide him with excellent healthcare throughout his long health battle.
Bob married his beloved wife Geraldine Karlo in 1962 and they went on to have three children: Renee, Robert and Peter. Bob was a devoted father and husband who believed in working hard, facing adversities and striving to be your best. Bob supported his family throughout many accomplishments and difficulties and his love for his family never faltered.
Bob was a lifetime member of the Catholic Church and a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Robert Martin and Francesca LoCoco and his beloved Aunt Harlene Dodd. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Geraldine; his children, Renee, Robert and Peter, their spouses: Emmanuel, Kimberly and Cindy; and many grandchildren; Renee’s Children: Andrew, Adrienne and Jonathan Hasler, Robert’s Children: Preston and Cebrina Martin and Ava Bignell and Peter’s Children: Adam, Joseph and Grace Martin and Christian Howard as well as his great granddaughter Maya Lily Hasler who had a special bond with her Great Papa. Additionally, Bob was an only child and is survived by many cousins and friends.
Bob was an avid sportsman, he could be found playing golf, at the sideline of any football game. He loved his Beavers, the Zags and the 49ers as well as anything his children or grandchildren participated in. Bob followed politics with passion. He enjoyed picnics, barbeques and roses. At one time Bob had over 50 varieties of roses he tenderly tended to.
