Ricky “Rick” E. Morris, born on September 5, 1960, in Pensacola, Florida. God called Rick home on April 13, 2024. He loved his Savior Jesus Christ and he loved reading the bible. Rick was the beloved child of Denton “Marc” Morris and Donna Morris. Rick was the oldest of four, he built a strong bond with his brothers Chris, Philip and Brace.
Rick’s family resided on Orr’s Island, Maine where his journey began in 1973. He would eventually graduate high school from Sweet Home High School in 1978.
His passion for football led him to play as a lineman both in high school and during his college years. He attended College of the Redwoods, a junior college for two years. He then joined the United States Navy in 1986, stationed at Barbers Point, Hawaii and served honorably for 6 years. This time in the Navy shaped his life, as Rick learned avionics while he worked on helicopters and military aircraft while serving.
After he discharged, Rick embarked on a career as an avionics specialist with Columbia Helicopters, where he dedicated over a decade of his life. He became a supervisor and was respected for his kindness and knowledge in the industry.
Rick's passion for tinkering extended beyond his professional life. He found joy in dismantling Roombas and radios, driven by an insatiable curiosity about their inner workings. Away from the workbench, he cherished serene fishing outings, always seeking out the perfect spot to cast his line. Rick also savored brief getaways, often embarking on scenic drives to Arizona to visit his children. A loyal Dallas Cowboys supporter, he never missed a game, and college football held a special place in his heart.
Music flowed through Rick’s veins. As a drummer, songwriter, and member of the choir and worship band at Salem First Christian, as well as playing in the Christian rock band "Cry of Stones”, he found solace and inspiration in melodies. Rick was always willing and ready to help his family, they knew he could be depended on, he helped build Cradle to Crayons Daycare and did much of the carpentry work at their building.
Rick was a gentle giant, a teddy bear, loved by his family, friends and children- he leaves behind a legacy of love and memories.
Rick is survived by his mother, Donna Morris; children, Michaela Morris and Caleb Morris, as well as his adored granddaughter; brothers, Chris Morris, Philip Olszewski, and Brace McGillivary.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 11am at Weddle Funeral Service located at 1777 N. Third Ave. Stayton, OR 97383.
