Richard Karl Kreitzer

Richard Karl Kreitzer July 8, 1956 – March 22, 2011 Richard spent his childhood in Stayton, Oregon where he studied, played football, golfed, and fished.  He graduated from Stayton High in 1974 and then attended University of Oregon where he met and fell in love with Meera.  They married in Mt. Angel in June, 1981 and lived in Salem for most of their married life.  Richard worked at North Santiam Plywood for several years, while attending college. After graduating from Western Oregon University, he assessed for Polk County.  In 1991, he began assessing for Marion County.  In 2006, he was elected as Marion County Tax Assessor, was re-elected in 2010, and held the post until his death. Besides Meera, the lights of his life were his daughters, Megan and Marissa.  One of his proudest moments was the day Megan graduated from University of Oregon. He was equally proud of his daughter, Marissa, who will graduate from high school in June.  He was thrilled by her many ballet performances and spent as much time as possible with both his children.  In addition to being a dedicated family man and public servant, he squeezed in as much golfing and fishing as possible. He was President of INDUS; a member of Rotary, Kiwanis, and Red Cross. He supported many charitable organizations and helped build a church in Guatemala last year. He enjoyed playing in many charity golf tournaments and won many prizes. Survivors include his wife, Meera; daughters, Megan and Marissa; mother, Rosella Kreitzer Schuetz; mother-in-law, Kanta Luthra; siblings, Jerry, Diane, Don, Sandy, Steve, Melinda, Karlene, Dennis, and Janice; brother-in-law, Himmanshu Luthra; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Service for family and close friends will be Monday, March 28, 11:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Stayton, Oregon. A public Celebration of Life will be held at the West Salem High School Auditorium on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 7:00 PM. Donations in Richards name may be made to East Salem Rotary Foundation or Marion County Crisis Chaplaincy.
