Randall Lee Gretzon, known to many as Randy, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2023, in Scio, Oregon. Born on December 7, 1960, in Marinette, Wisconsin, to Arvid and Mary (Mattrisch) Gretzon, Randy was a man of many talents and a heart full of love for his family and friends.
Randy completed his high school education in Albany, Oregon, and went on to earn his Class 5 Boiler License. He was a skilled welder and pipefitter, spending eight years at Wah Chang before retiring seven years ago. Randy was known for his handyman skills, with a knack for fixing anything, especially if it involved controls or hydraulics. His resourcefulness and problem-solving abilities were admired by those who knew him.
In 1980, Randy married the love of his life, Carmen Hart, whom he met at the 1st Assembly of God Church in Albany. Their union was blessed with two sons, Brandon and Kevin, and later expanded to include grandchildren, Tegan, Grace, and Noah. Randy was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished the time spent with his family. He is survived by his wife, sons, grandchildren, and three brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister.
Randy was an adventurous spirit who loved to travel, with Mexico and Costa Rica being among his favorite destinations. He was an avid outdoorsman, with bow hunting and fishing being his preferred pastimes. He owned a boat named the Viper, and he spent countless hours fishing on the ocean with his family. Randy was a skilled fisherman, known for his quick filleting skills, and his boat never returned empty. He passed on his love for fishing to his sons, and his wife Carmen would help can many pounds of tuna over the years. The family also enjoyed riding ATVs in Florence on the dunes, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
His adventurous spirit was infectious, and he encouraged those around him to embrace life and its many opportunities. He was also incredibly handy, a trait that served him well in his professional life and personal pursuits.
In remembering Randy, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, adventure, and service. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched with his kindness, his love for life, and his unwavering dedication to his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
