Randy Jay Walker

May 1, 1953 — February 20, 2023

Randy Jay Walker was born on May 1, 1953, in Pittsburg, California to Wayne and Jean Walker. Randy grew up in Pleasant Hill, Oregon. He then moved to Mill City in the fall of 1971 where he met his wife, Christine. They graduated from Santiam High School together and married in 1973. They lived in the Mill City/Gates area during their fifty years of marriage.

In 2003 they bought their dream property in Gates where Randy enjoyed many hours working outdoors, driving his John Deere tractor, and harvesting hay. Randy and Christine have two children, Sabrina Kent (Walker) and husband Ryan, and Christopher Walker and wife Sarah. They have grandchildren Asher Kent, Sawyer Kent, Lucas Walker, and Olivia Walker.

Randy felt that family was very important, and he organized many family trips to Diamond Lake, the Oregon Coast, and the Mount Jefferson wilderness.

Randy spent 51 years working at Frank Lumber Company, where he was treated like family. He made many lifelong friends there and cared very much about his work.

Growing up on a horse ranch Randy spent his childhood riding and caring for horses, a love he continued throughout his life. He enjoyed trail riding and packing into the wilderness for hunting trips. He shared this love with his friends and family, creating many wonderful memories together.

Randy spent over 40 years volunteering for the Mill City fire department. He loved the camaraderie with his fire department family and especially enjoyed calling Bingo at the annual Fireman’s Benefit and helping set fireworks for the Mill City Fourth of July Celebration.

Randy was a unique individual; known for being extremely positive, determined and hard-working. He was very detail-oriented and skilled in many areas, and could accomplish anything he set his mind to. He was an excellent listener; known for his kindness and compassionate nature.

Randy passed away peacefully on February 20, 2023, with his wife and children by his side. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters.
