Priscilla Kay Schaecher (Berning) June 18, 1953 - March 24, 2023. With her loving family by her side and the good lord guiding her way, Priscilla passed away peacefully at home after her long struggle with ALS. Priscilla was born a twin, alongside her sister Marcella, on June 18, 1953 to the proud parents of Henry and Marie Berning of Gervais Oregon. Gervais was her hometown where she attended grade school and graduated from Gervais High School in 1971. Priscilla worked for State Farm Insurance Regional Office in Salem and it was during this time that on March 10, 1973 she met Ted Schaecher on a blind date and the two were married on November 17, 1973 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gervais and later established their home in Salem. Over the following years they raised their three young boys into the fine young men they are today. Priscilla was very proud of them, remembering to call them on their birthdays to sing happy birthday to them, but in her own special way and tune. In 2004, Priscilla and Ted moved to Lacey, Washington, where Priscilla continued to work for State Farm in Dupont. Moving back to Salem in 2010 and after working a few more years for a State Farm agent, Priscilla retired in 2014. Priscilla and Ted were always up for an adventure! Traveling to Ireland, Great Britain, going on cruises, or just a simple road trip with family and friends. At heart, Priscilla was a kid who loved her visits to Disneyland and it was through her determination that in May of 2022, Priscilla, Ted and her sister Donna embarked on a road trip to Disneyland. It was an amazing special time for her and where her smiles and laughter will never be forgotten. Priscilla was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for 24 years where she made many lifelong friends. Priscilla was also a member of the infamous Black Butte Girls, where she formed strong bonds with very creative and spiritual women. Priscilla enjoyed traveling, playing pinochle and had a passion for gardening especially her secret garden area filled with colorful sundials, butterflies, lady bugs, and gnomes all protected by the many trees she loved. Priscilla was known for her berry & rhubarb pies, decorating, craft skills and her water color paintings of which many pieces hang on the walls of her loved ones. Priscilla & Ted built what she called “The Cedar House” on their property complete with chandelier, which fit her to a “T”. It was her magical place where she would go sometimes to paint or just read a book. It was her place of solitude. Priscilla was a member of St Edward Catholic Church in Keizer, where she was involved with helping at funeral receptions, Octoberfest food preparation and the Prayer Shawl Ministry. As part of Prayer Shawl, Priscilla would knit blankets for new born babies of unwed mothers and include baby clothing outfits to match. Priscilla was an amazing woman who will be dearly missed by all who loved her. Priscilla is survived by her husband, Ted, of 50 years, sons Bradley Schaecher of Salem, Grant (Amanda) Schaecher of Rickreal and Marc (Hollie) Schaecher of Monmouth, grandchildren Alyssa, Rylee, Bentley, Houston, Corbyn and Henry. Sisters Donna (Tim) Banning of Stayton, twin sister Marcella (Bill) Coffman of Chandler Arizona, Anne (Ron) Etzel of Sublimity and brother Michael (Gloria) Berning of Keizer. Funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday April 12, 2023 at St Edward Catholic Church Keizer, Oregon with reception following. Contributions may be made to Father Taafe Homes and Pregnancy Support Services.
