A private celebration of life will be held for Pearl Irene Derrick who passed away on July 4, 2018 at age 88 at her home in Sublimity. Pearl was born on June 25, 1930 in Wheatland, Wyoming to George and Sarah (Kreiter) Simmons. She was one of 6 sisters. At age 4, Pearl’s family moved from Wyoming to Idaho. Her family lived on the Idaho/Oregon border for most of her youth. She married her husband Melvin Curtis Derrick in 1947; they moved to Oregon and settled in Idanha. Pearl worked at several restaurants as a cook throughout the canyon such as Marion Forks Lodge, Mountain Edge Café, Wagon Wheel and the Corner Post in Detroit. Pearl loved to bake and was known for her maple bars, cinnamon rolls, fried bread and no bake cookies. She enjoyed flower gardening and loved any flower that was bright and beautiful. The last 6 years she and her husband lived in Sublimity, Oregon. After 70 years of marriage, Melvin preceded her in death on February 13, 2018 in addition to two sons, Gary L. Derrick and George C. Derrick. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Sharon Cota and Peggy Kimbro in addition to a sister; Pearl leaves behind a legacy of 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren.
