Stayton, Oregon Virginia Lee Honeywell, loving mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and friend, went to be with the Lord on July 25th after a courageous battle with cancer.  Born  to Wylie Monroe McCoy and Vianona Stroud in Jerusalem, Arkansas on November 27, 1937. Virginia moved to Mapleton, Oregon with her mother and step father in 1949 and entered the 6th grade.  She graduated from Mapleton High School in 1955.  She attended Eugene Beauty College and after graduation built a beauty shop in Mapleton, OR.  She was the administrator of the board for barbers and hair dressers.  She was the First woman to graduate from the National Fire Academy and retired from the State of Oregon as Deputy State Fire Marshal.    She served as Mayor for the City of Stayton and provided public service under 7 Governors, and was always involved with other civic duties. Virginia was married to Ralph Honeywell September 13, 1959 and they moved to Pendleton, Oregon.  They later moved to Baker, Ontario, Tigard and Salem before moving to Stayton in 1995.  Ralph preceded her in death on July 9, 1999. Virginia was a member of the Stayton and Molalla Moose lodges and had received the highest degree with the Women of the Moose several years ago.  She enjoyed sewing, square dancing, puzzles, cooking, floral arranging, reading, camping and fishing and traveling. She is survived by the love of her life, Charlie Meithof and their yorkie “Bart”; her children, Carmen Lea Honeywell, Jeffrey Eric Honeywell, Shelli LaNae Honeywell; sisters, Sandra Kay Mayberry, Kathy Jane Rhinehart;  nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Contributions may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society or youth education funding at Santiam and Cascade School Districts. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 28th at 10:00 am at the Stayton Christian Church,189 E. Washington, Stayton. Interment in Gilliland Cemetery, Sweet Home, Oregon.
