Detroit, Oregon Truman Douglas Tibbits was born on June 2, 1931 in Sundance, Wyoming and passed away peacefully in Detroit, Oregon on July 22, 2011. Most of Truman’s working life was spent trucking logging, dump trucking or hauling “pigs” up & down I-5. As an owner-operator, he ran dump trucks, spending 40 years as a trucker. Truman retired at 65 years of age from Salem-Keizer School district -9 years as a mechanic working on school buses. Truman spent most of his free time working in his shop tinkering on cars and fixing up things for friends or family. He had a life-long love of old cars, trucks and steam-driven vehicles. Truman enjoyed hunting on the top of McCully Mountain and fishing trips with family members. His family was most important to him and he drove long miles to spend the evening hours with them. Survived by wife of 57 years, Pauline; brother, Jim; son, Dave (Karla); daughter, Cathy (Baird); six grandchildren, Jaime (Shawn); Paul; Joe (Staice); Rick; Ben and Sam; three step-grand daughters (husbands) and six great-grand children, Saira Joe; Justice; Brody; Candra; Jacob and Liam, nine step-great-grand children and five step-great-great grand children. Truman was pre-deceased by his parents Truman Jay and Frances Leah and his son, Michael Douglas. Services are 9:30am Rosary, 10:00am Mass with a Reception following in Reedy Hall at St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Salem on July 29.
