O. Lorraine (House) Strauss, 88, passed away suddenly on June 25, 2020, at 8:29 a.m. She was born in San Francisco, Calif., to Ethel Elizabeth McCulloch, of Joliet, Ill., and Charles Augustus House, of Eastland, Tex. She graduated from San Francisco State University and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. After college, she taught grade school in San Carlos, Calif., and then Sunnyvale, Calif. She received a master's degree in special education from Western Oregon State University after moving to the Willamette Valley in 1971. She was a special education teacher in Lebanon, Ore., for many years. During that time, she devised a series of game boards to aid in the teaching of remedial students. She taught her method to other teachers through various workshops throughout the state. After retiring and moving to Salem in 1982, she worked part-time as a teacher's aide in the Salem-Keizer Public School District. Since a young age, she had a beautiful singing voice and received private training. She enjoyed serving as a soloist in her church and was a member of the Salem Concert Association. She also enjoyed traveling, both within the states and overseas. Her husband was Rodney (deceased), whom she married in 1954. Her three sisters and one brother are all deceased: Marguerite "Marge," Viola Louise, Ethel Irene, and Charles William. Survivors include a daughter, Lori Strauss of Portland, and son, Rodney of Salem; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Private memorial services will be held.
