Milton Karl Smith, a loving husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on May 24, 2023, in Salem, Oregon. Born on April 4, 1940, in Topeka, Kansas, Milton's life was marked by his intelligence, curiosity, and wide-ranging interests.


Milton is survived by his wife of almost 56 years, Charlene; daughters, Lisa and Laura; and siblings, William, Nancy, and Linda. He attended Richland High School and later went on to build a successful career as an Information System Manager for SAIF Corp. He also worked for the Department of Veteran Affairs and the State of Oregon, where he made many lasting friendships and professional connections.


Milton's interests were as diverse as they were fascinating. He was an avid drawer, guitar player, and steam engine model enthusiast. His interest in steam engines pushed him to become a member of the Model Engine Club. His love for electronics and history connected him with like-minded individuals who shared his passion for learning. Milton's curiosity and profound interest in a wide variety of subjects never waned.


He was a voracious reader, consuming books on countless topics and always eager to expand his knowledge. Whenever he visited the Tri-Cities, he never missed an opportunity to stop at SpudNuts, a beloved family tradition.


Milton will be remembered as a loving, intelligent, and interesting man who touched the lives of many. His legacy will live on through the memories and stories shared by those who knew and loved him.
