Mill City Oregon Donald Jenkins was born on May 26, 1919 to Delbert and Anna Jenkins in Mill City, Oregon. Don passed away at home on July 29, 2008. He grew up in Mill City and graduated from Mill City High School. On September 7, 1940, Don married the love of his life, Thelma Jayes. During World War II, he worked at Lockheed Aircraft before joining The Marine Corp serving in the South Pacific. After his war time service, Donald and Thelma returned to Mill City to raise their two young children, Dennis and Susan. In 1958, Don and Thelma had their third child, Sally. They opened and operated Mill City Hardware for 10 years. Don was one of the original partners in Cedar Lumber in Lyons, Oregon. In 1966, Don started Hardwood Components, Inc. in Mehama, Oregon. He was active in the business up until 5 years ago. He believed in hard work and set an example his entire life. He enjoyed dancing with Thelma, quoting Shakespeare, reading history, and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildrens activities. He will be greatly missed by his devoted family. Donald was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Thelma; and his daughter Sally Embry. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Dorothy VanOtten; children, Dennis and Mary Jenkins of Gates, Susan and Roger Neustadter of Eugene, and Dan Embry of Mexico City; grandchildren, Melissa and Danny White, Meghan and Jeremy Downey, Patti and Joe Pastor, and Eric Neustadter; and 11 great-grandchildren, Dylan, Donny, Peyton, and Madeline White, Michael, Julian, Jonah, Ezra, and Maizy Downey, Ellie Paster, and Tyler Neustadter. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 2 at the Mill City Presbyterian Church, Mill City, Oregon. Donations may be made to the Mill City Fire Department or Willamette Valley Hospice. Arrangements entrusted to Weddle Funeral Services Stayton Oregon.
