MILDRED “MIDGE” HAWKINS April 10, 1922 – July 27, 2011 Mildred “Midge” Hawkins died at Salem, Oregon . She was the daughter of Sylvia Thibodeau and Ralph W. Hassler, a direct descendant of Scio pioneer families of J.M. Hassler, W. C. Miles, Wm W. Richardson and J.M. Smith of Shelburn. Midge attended schools at Hopville and Independence then moved to San Jose where she worked as a credit executive for Kay Jewelers and Kennedy business Machines. She and husband, Cal Hawkins retired to Scio in 1978. Midge was a member of the Scio Munkers club, the Scio Lions club. Midge and husband, Cal, were active volunteers in Scio. Charter and life members of the Scio Historical Society and were very involved in the establishment of the Scio Depot Museum, Midge having served as curator for 12 years. Mr. Hawkins preceded her in death in 1993 and Midge moved to Albany in 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Judith Seifert; sister, Velva June Volz. She was preceded in death by her brother, Leland. A private memorial service will be held at Providence Cemetery in Scio.
