Michael Simon Mack was born on November 13, 1942 in Prelate, Saskatchewan, Canada to Michael and Genevieve Mack. The family would eventually make their home in West Stayton where Michael attended school at St Boniface in Sublimity. Michael joined the Army at the age of 19. He was honorably discharged in 1962 as an E3. In 1963 he married Sharon Grocott at Immaculate Conception in Stayton, Oregon.
