Salem, Oregon – Michael Howard Farmen, a beloved son, father, grandfather, and an enthusiastic lover of the outdoors, passed away on October 19, 2023, in Salem, Oregon, at the age of 67. He was born on September 21, 1956, in Salem, Oregon, and would be adopted by Leo and Alice (Roberts) Farmen. As an adult, Michael would later find and connect with his biological mother and two sisters, Karen and Patricia.


Michael's early years were spent in the picturesque town of Mill City, where he attended Santiam High School and embraced the values and friendships that would shape his life. He went on to become a dedicated member of the community, always cherishing his Mill City roots.


For 38 years, Michael worked tirelessly at Girod's Hill Top Market in Mill City, where he was not only an employee but also a cherished member of the local community. His dedication to the store and the relationships he formed there were a testament to his character.


In 2012, Michael decided to retire and begin a new chapter in Bend, Oregon. This serene and beautiful place became his home for a decade, where he relished the joys of retirement. In 2022, he relocated to Salem, wanting to be closer with loved ones.


Michael was a member of The Mazamas, a nonprofit mountaineering organization, which perfectly aligned with his passion for the outdoors. He was an adventurer at heart, finding solace and joy in activities like hiking and mountain climbing. His love for sports was undeniable, and he enjoyed playing basketball and watching sports of all kinds. The beach was another place close to his heart, where he often found tranquility and happiness.


Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Alice Farmen. He is survived by his children, Scott Farmen and Aaron (Maria) Farmen, and his adoring grandchildren, Leo J. Farmen, Lucas D. Farmen, and Sierra Cornwell. His sisters, Karen (John) Kennedy and Patricia Tibbets.


In memory of Michael, the family suggests that donations be made in his honor to Santiam High School Basketball or Mazamas.org, supporting the passions that were dear to his heart.


A celebration of Michael's life will be held at Weddle Funeral Service, located at 1777 N. Third Ave., Stayton, Oregon 97383, on Saturday, November 18, 2023. Friends and family are invited to join in remembering and honoring the life of a man who brought so much happiness to those around him. Michael's spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
