Michael Dean Schoonover

Michael Dean Schoonover was born on November 10, 1951, in Downey, California to Earl Schoonover and Melba Elmore. Eventually, Michael would make his way to the Northwest and would marry Denise Barnwell on February 4, 1978. They would have two daughters, Lindsey and Ashlee. Michael loved his daughters and spent much time taking them on road trips to Crater Lake, Disney Land or British Columbia. Locally, he would take them to Wunderland to play games or teach them how to become entrepreneurs when they were little to sell toys so they could pay for their entrance fees to Enchanted Forest. He also enjoyed learning new technologies and over the year taught his daughters how to use MS-DOS so they could play computer games." Overall, Michael was a laid-back father who wanted to make sure his children were taken care of. Besides the most important job of being a parent, Michael worked as a caregiver and drove school bus for Salem Keizer school district. He also worked for Pictsweet, doing plant delivery and forklift driving. He gave back to his community by doing volunteer janitorial work for the YMCA. When not busy taking care of his family, working or volunteering, Michael had many hobbies and interests. In his younger years he loved bowling but also spent time taking trips to the Spirit Mountain Casino, watching baseball and tennis, gardening, going to the gym and playing handball. One of Michael’s biggest joys was being a grandfather and playing Nintendo with his grandchildren. On Memorial Day, May 31, 2021 Michael passed away at age 69 in Aumsville, Oregon. He was preceded in death by Earl, Dwayne, Melba and Robert. He is survived by his wife, Denise Schoonover; daughters, Lindsey Schoonover and Ashlee Schoonover; grandchildren Cyrus, Zoey, Logan Ciampi in addition to other extended family members.
