Michael G. Culver was born on July 6, 1946, in Bayonne, New Jersey. Michael was the
son of Joseph and Domica Culver. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, he
passed away peacefully on April 6, 2023, at the age of 76 in Turner, Oregon.
Michael graduated from Sayreville War Memorial High School in 1965 and went on to
serve in the United States Navy from May of 1967 to June of 1970 in Guantanamo Bay,
Cuba. His time in the Navy instilled in him a sense of discipline and commitment that he
carried with him throughout his life.
After his time in the Navy, Michael moved to Oregon. He met Merlene Goergens, at a
gas station in Canby. The couple married on March 1, 2013, at the 1st Baptist Church
in Oregon City, Oregon. Michael was a devoted husband and father, and together, they
built a beautiful life filled with love and laughter.
Michael was blessed with children, Mickey Culver, Dominica Culver, and Crystal Culver,
who brought him immense joy and pride. He cherished the time he spent with his 11
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, always making time for their activities and
ensuring they knew how much he loved them. Family was of the utmost importance to
Michael, and he made sure they knew it. He was truly a loving husband, father,
grandfather, and great-grandfather.
In addition to his wife and children, Michael is survived by his sister, Mildred
Culver-Derich. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Domica Culver,
and his brother, Joe Culver.
Michael's work history included positions at Hines Lumber Compan in Burns, Oregon.
Hw worked also at the Woodburn Police Department, where he served as a code
enforcement officer. In his free time, he was a dedicated gun safety instructor and a
member of various gun clubs. Michael's expertise and passion for firearms led him to win
numerous awards and accolades in the field.
An avid outdoorsman, Michael loved fishing and hunting. He spent countless hours
exploring the natural beauty of Oregon, often accompanied by his family and friends. He
took great pleasure in sharing his knowledge and passion for the outdoors with those
around him.
He was a wise and thoughtful man who made a lasting impact on the lives of those who
knew him. He had a keen ability to listen, understand, and provide guidance to those
who sought his counsel. His kindness and generosity touched the lives of many, and he
will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his family, friends, and
community.
Michael’s life was characterized by love, service, and dedication to his family, friends,
and country. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
