Mary Lucille Martin was born on October 29, 1926 in Salem, Oregon to George and Louise Bogosian. She attended Hallsferry Elementary School as a young girl. Growing up, Mary would pick hops with her family. She married her first husband, Hurstle Totton in 1945 and they had 5 children together, Donald, Donna, Diane, Debbie, and Danny. Hurstle passed away in 1962 leaving Mary to raise her young children alone. She later met Burl Martin and they married on August 16, 1963 in Salem, Oregon and he preceded her in death in 1994. Throughout her life, Mary loved to be active. She would play shuffleboard, hunting, fishing and camping. She loved to get crawfish or crawdads, and she took many of her family members to enjoy the outdoors with her. In addition to outdoor activities, she loved to watch soap operas, crochet, play bingo and bunco, go to garage sales and collecting her prized dolls. She also would cook at home and made homemade porkrines, pigs feet and headcheese. All of these things that not a lot of people know how to make any more these days. Mary also worked at Camlu Retirement doing housekeeping works and caretaking in addition to working for a family janitorial company. One of the things that Mary will be remembered for the most was having her cup of coffee and reading her newspaper every morning to check on what was happening in the world. After a sudden illness Mary passed away on September 27, 2018 at Salem, Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Hurstle and Burl; son, Danny Totton in 2000 and step son, Brian Martin in 2014. She is survived by her children, Donald Totton, Donna Totton, Diane Malotte and Debbie Duffield; 1 sister, Shirley McMahill; 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Mary was spunky and could be honorary but she will be deeply missed by her family.
