July 20, 1960 — October 21, 2023

Mark Lee Kester, a beloved son, husband and Poppa, was born on July 20, 1960, in Decatur, Illinois, and departed from this world on October 21, 2023. He was a man of many facets, whose life was marked by love, dedication, and service.

Mark was married to his cherished wife, Bridget Bush, for 37 years, having shared their vows on November 28, 1986, in a heartfelt ceremony in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Their love was a testament to the enduring power of commitment and partnership.

Mark's parents, Betty Hicks and the late Darrell Kester, raised him with love and care, instilling in him the values that shaped his life. He was a devoted Poppa to his children, Kelsey Lynn (Travis), David Darrell, Margaret Jane, and Bradley Chase. His love for his family knew no bounds, and his dedication to their well-being was unwavering. He also took great joy in being a Poppa to Caeden Aileen and Hadley James, showering them with affection and creating lasting memories.

Among his siblings, Mark shared a special bond with Kathryn, Lisa, Darla, and his late brother Mathew and sister Carolyn. Their shared experiences and support were a cornerstone of his life.

Mark's educational journey included studies at North Idaho College and an apprenticeship as a plastic injection mold maker in 1986. He continued his pursuit of knowledge at Portland Community College and Clackamas Community College. These achievements reflect his determination and commitment to personal growth.

Mark's life took him to various places, from his early years in Decatur, Illinois, to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where he spent his formative years. He called Sherwood, Oregon, home from 1988 to 2000, and Georgetown, Texas, from 2000 to 2002. He finally settled in Stayton, Oregon, in 2003, and it was here that he spent the rest of his days.

Mark's professional career was as a plastic injection mold maker, a role he fulfilled with dedication and skill. However, his time in the United States Marine Corps from 1978 to 1981 was one of the proudest chapters of his life. He earned his high school diploma while serving and held the rank of Lance Corporal. During his service, he worked as a helicopter structure mechanic and was honored with the Good Conduct Medal, Rifle Expert Badge, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and the Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal.

Mark's interests and hobbies were diverse and reflected his passion for life. He had a love for archery, motorcycles, hunting, chess, numbers, grilling, hockey, and was an enthusiastic sports lover. His fascination with maps and stargazing reflected his profound curiosity about the world and the cosmos.

Above all, Mark was a man who loved deeply and was cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His warm smile and kind heart left an indelible mark on the lives of those around him.

Mark Lee Kester is preceded in death by his son Bradley, his father Darrell, and his siblings Mathew and Carolyn. While his physical presence has left us, his memory and the love he shared will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
