Heaven needed a good cowboy. On February 10, 2021, Mark Douglas Young answered the call.Mark leaves behind his wife of twenty-six years, Beverly Smigelski Young, his son, Anthony Jones, daughter-in-law, Carrie, and four beautiful grandchildren; Spencer, Tatum, Lucy, and Declan.Born December 1, 1957 in Willows, California to Thomas Jerry and Carol Jean Hansen Young, Mark also leaves behind three sisters and brothers in law, Glenda Young of Ojai, California, Cheryl and Rob Zeller of Reno, Nevada and Lori and Cam Schryver of Antelope, Oregon, along with nieces, nephews and their spouses, Carol Schryver, Conner and Dana Schryver, grand-niece, Finley Schryver, Zane Schryver, Cora Mae Schryver (deceased 2019) and Sam and Amber Young-Gay. Mark grew up in Woodland, California graduating from High School with countless friends. He put a lot of effort in staying touch with “the brothers”. Mark always said, “You have to be a friend to have a friend.” He truly believed that. Mark graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Business Administration in 1992 allowing him to excel in management. He was hired as General Manager by Mark Lyman at Ram Steelco, Salem, Oregon in 2000 and helped lead the company to many profitable years. Mark loved getting in his truck, driving the countryside, meeting farmers, retailers, all who soon became fast friends. He had found his “forever” job and loved the caring family who owned the company. Mark loved the western lifestyle. Mark and Bev had a small ranch, but when his family bought a large ranch in Antelope, Oregon, nothing made him happier than riding horses, building fence, tending cows, and camping under the stars. Working with Bev at the Eugene Pro Rodeo and volunteering at the St. Paul Rodeo put a smile on his face every 4th of July weekend. And there was golf, hunting and fishing. Mark never met a fishing trip, a hunting trip or golf game he could not enjoy, if he were with good friends. “What’s not to like about Mark Young”, was voiced by more than one person. Mark will be deeply missed by family, friends, and business associates. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and niece, Cora Mae Schryver. Heaven got a good cowboy.A Celebration of Life will be held at the ranch of Mark and Bev on April 24th at 11:00am in Scio, Oregon. An additional Celebration of Life will be held in Woodland, California. Date and time TBD.
