South Beach, Oregon- Mark McAbee, loving husband, father, papa, brother, son, cousin, uncle, friend outdoorsman, accomplished angler and hunter, left us on Tuesday January 26, 2021. Mark was born and raised in Bakersfield, California but also spent many years in Washington and eventually settled in South Beach, Oregon 16 years ago. If you met Mark, you were his friend. He was an incredibly caring, compassionate, and kind man. He did not have a judgmental bone in his body; he did not care who you were, what you looked like, or where you came from, he still treated you with the same unconditional kindness. He had a way about him that made others around him feel comfortable. Mark had an endless amount of forgiveness. If he loved you, you had his love for life. Mark loved to laugh, joke, talk, and enjoy life; he never met a stranger. He often said funny words that would stick with you like taters instead of potatoes, sumbitch, and mosican instead of moccasin. He and the love of his life Jeannie were together 34 years. They loved to do everything together, cooking, home projects, yard work, beachcombing, and … well maybe as they got older “momma” stayed home and read a book while “papa” went out to the “fishin’ hole”. They were inseparable, the best of best friends, and the most incredible affectionate partners sharing an unconditional bond of love. Mark took great pride in his wife, in his eyes she was his absolute everything, the most incredible woman that ever walked this earth, and the prettiest thing he had ever laid eyes on. To the end, he was very much head over boots in love with his wife, and he made sure she knew it every day. Mark was a lifelong animal lover. He and Jeannie always had dogs and their current 4- legged babies, Walter and Lili, were included in everything they did. He had four daughters Cherish, Brandi, Sherri, & Sabrina and a son-in-law who he loved and adored so much Michael. He was the type of dad who did not think twice about teaching his girls how to fish, hunt, how to select a quality hammer, what shovels were for what, to share his love of the outdoors, and how to just be a good human. He loved all his girls dearly and was extremely proud of the wonderful women they grew into. His greatest hobby was fishing; it consumed much of his life over the years. Those that knew him can well remember his obsession. He fished in lakes & aqueducts all over California and Washington. After moving to Oregon the ocean became his “lake” where he harvested an endless bounty of fish & crabs. Family photo albums are filled with pictures of him and friends showing off their catches. Mark will always be that man walking down the aqueduct casting his fishing pole with his 45 in his shoulder holster just in case the Tasmanian devil ever attacked him again. Throughout his life he was also an avid hunter. His favorite things to watch on television were Nascar racing & crazy Sci-Fi movies. Mark was also an incredible handyman. He could fix just about anything. If you needed it he knew how to build it, if you imagined it he made it a reality. He was so incredibly talented and smart… he could calculate mathematical equations in his head; he could just figure things out. Mark’s lifetime career was spent as a concrete supervisor and finisher with pieces of his concrete work spread all over California, Oregon, and Washington. Around the concrete community Mark was the man you would call if you had a difficult job, a delicate job, or a very detailed job. He was known not only for his ability to get any job done the right way, but also for his talent in creating artwork out of concrete, he made some of the most amazing stamped, stained, and decorative concrete pieces around. Mark will be dearly missed. When he left, he took a huge chunk of our hearts with him. He will always be remembered for the wonderful person that he was, the huge heart he had, the talents he passed on, and the joyful life he lived. He is gone far too soon. We love you “Papa!” Mark is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, mother & step-father, Imogene & Ralph Kotz, brothers Steve & Terry McAbee as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, neice, and cousins. ~Our family would love for you to please share any funny stories, memories, and photos you have.
