Marion Erma Schwartz Dorothy, 97, Sublimity, died Tue. Nov. 7, 2017 at Marian Estates. A Celebration Of Life Service will be held Sat. Dec. 2, 2017 @ 2 pm at the Mill City Presbyterian Church, 236 SW Broadway St. in Mill City, with Pastor Carol Swanson officiating. Private Cremation Rites have been held and Inurnment will be held at the Fairview Cemetery at a later date. Marion Erma Schwartz Dorothy was born Feb. 8, 1920 in Wolsey, SD. to Henry Louis and Clara Klinger Schwartz. She was raised and educated in South Dakota with her older sister, Ella. She then attended the General Beadle College at Madison, SD and began teaching at Wolsey. She moved to Vernonia, OR in 1945 with one of her college friends and taught school there for 4 years. In 1949 she moved to Mill City, OR and continued her teaching career there. Marion was united in marriage to Raymond Gale Dorothy on June 23, 1951 in Vancouver, Wa. In 1954 they moved to The Dalles, Or. where their daughter, Susan was born and two years later they moved to Pierre, SD where she taught school. In 1965 they made their home in Mill City where she worked in Gates and Mill City as a teacher until she retired in 1983. Among her personal interests she enjoyed sewing, and collecting coins and antiques. Marion loved spending time with her granddaughter and her great grandchildren. Marion was an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Mill City. She was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Historical Assoc. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2015 and her sister, Ella. Survivors include her daughter, Susan Ryan of Salem, Or., her granddaughter and husband, Heather and Randy Thomas, great-grandchildren; Jordan, Gabriel, and Keira Lanham, and Kendall Thomas. The family suggests remembrances may be contributions made to the charity of ones choice in Marion’s memory. Arrangements entrusted to Weddle Funeral Services.
