Lyle Hale Rogers

November 7, 1925 — August 7, 2023

Lyle Hale Rogers Sr. of Stayton, OR, passed away on August 7, 2023, at the age of 97 from natural causes. He was surrounded by his family.

Lyle was born on November 7th, 1925, in Hood River, OR, to Luther and Inez Rogers. He was born into a large family with 8 siblings. He grew up in Oakridge, OR, and loved animals, especially dogs. In almost every childhood picture of Lyle, he was always with a pet. Throughout his high school days, he played in various sports, he served as a Yell King and was

captain of his high school Boxing team. He grew up loving the outdoors and he loved to hunt and fish; two hobbies that he carried throughout his life. He married Barbara Webber on June 3, 1948, a marriage that would live to see its 75th anniversary. Lyle loved his wife, and he loved his children and grandchildren. He also loved to travel, and he loved his garden. In younger years, while he wasn’t in too much pain (from the injuries he sustained in the logging industry), Lyle loved to play tennis and even tried his hand at golf a few times. He cooked the best pancake breakfasts and always woke the house up by singing hymns while looking for his morning cup of coffee.

Lyle was a hard worker who loved logging. In high school, he worked for his dad peeling poles. After he completed high school, he joined the Marine Corp and served during WWII. After his discharge from the Marines, he went to work for Heinze Logging and excelled with that company. At the age of 25 years, his father was injured in a logging accident and Lyle left Heinze to help keep his dad’s business afloat. He later was hired by Lucky Mute Logging which would soon change its name to Shippler Logging and eventually (years later), Lyle would become the owner of that company under its new name, Skycar Logging. When Lyle retired, he was proud to turn the company over to the next generation of loggers in the family.

Lyle loved music like Begin the Beguine, and any songs sung by George Beverly Shay, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, and most songs sung by Elvis. He and his siblings would get together every year to sing memorable songs, songs we were never quite sure if God had even heard before. That Rogers family would turn anything they could find into an instrument to play. It was joyous watching them perform.

Lyle loved the Lord Jesus, and he was a member of the Christian Church. He was always a positive example for anyone who knew him, and best of all, he raised his children to follow him in his walk with Christ.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Barbara; two sisters Theron Kirby and Tamaris Johnson; his daughters Christine Pennick (husband Bill); Martha Duckworth (husband Ken); and Ellen Foley (husband Tim); Karen Clark (husband Alfred); his sons Lyle (Bud) Rogers Jr. (wife Denise) and Larry Rogers (wife Kerry); 15 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild.

For us who mourn: Lyle was loved dearly, will be greatly missed, and will be seen again. With the angels we rejoice: Lyle is once more united with those who have gone before him. There is a celebration in heaven and Lyle is in the middle of it all.

Until we meet again: Semper Fidelis - Well done faithful servant!
