Loren Francis Jay was born on December 29, 1937, in a log cabin in Donald, Wisconsin to Lloyde and Estella (Fitzpatrick) Jay. Moving to Washington State at the age of two, most of Loren’s life was spent in the Cascade Mountain Range. His father was a logger by trade and their time together in the Cascades gave Loren a passion for the outdoors, camping, hiking, and hunting. Loren had an incredible sense of direction and truly felt “at home” in the mountains. After graduating from high school, Loren worked for Boeing and then joined the United States Navy, serving honorably as a Surgical Technician in Bremerton, Washington. In 1964 Loren attended Lower Columbia College and received certification for MDTA Forest Technology. In 1970, Loren became a Professional Land Surveyor and was a Certified Water and Mineral Rights Examiner. As the provider for his family, Loren was an example of hard-work, uprightness, and honesty. Loren married Teresa Rose Paul in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on August 12, 1972. Loren and his family lived in the Wenatchee Valley until work took him to Oregon, back to Washington, and then to Colorado. After returning to Oregon in 2003 he became a parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church and continued as a member of the Knights of Columbus. Loren worked as a Professional Land Surveyor until he retired in 2013. While in retirement he enjoyed reading, woodworking, and gardening, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren who were the light of his life. Loren was quiet, witty, and tender-hearted, especially toward the unborn, the weak, and the elderly. He was a dedicated family man and a devout Catholic. On June 21, 2021, Loren passed away at the age of 83 surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his son, Frank Loyd Jay (1978-1983); He is survived by his wife, Teresa Jay and their children: Thomas (Lena) Jay, Carol (Michael) Odgers, Julie (Frank) Hellhake, Janet (Samit Pethe) Jay, Patrick (Maranda) Jay, Colleen (Bill) Watson, Anthony Jay, Peter (Colleen) Jay, Donald (Katie) Jay, Joanne (Adiregk) Eamsaard, Angela Jay, and Jerome (fiancé, Rachel) Jay; his younger sisters, Laurel Ayers, Sharon Paul, and Jennie Ayers; and his 34 grandchildren. Viewing will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021, from 9:00 am-9:30 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, followed by recitation of the Holy Rosary at 9:30 am with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass to follow at 10:00 am.
