Vern served in the US Army from 1946-1949. He was a wood craftsman who could build just about anything. Many in the family, and friends in the community, have pieces of his work; traditional birdhouses, and specialty lighted and non-lighted birdhouses replicating a light house that he sold at garage sales. He also made piggy banks for the children, rolling pins for the cooks in the family, keepsake boxes, garden trellises, household furniture and clocks.

He is survived by his wife Sue and her family, his younger sister Carolyn, and many nieces and nephews. Vern has three daughters Junko, Sandy, and Kim, and sons Dennis, David, and Scott. He has 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Vern's four step-children and spouses are Leanne and Hondo, Adam and Iviee, Sarah and Trevor, Rachelle and Jared. He also has 10 step-grandchildren, and his sisters and brother-in-laws; Judy and Joe, Allan and Vicky, Randy and Debbie, Rick and Kristina.

He will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him.
