Now, safe in the arms of Jesus, Kenneth T. Krumdieck was born on July 7, 1933, on a beloved farm in Chatfield, Minnesota to Louis Frederick and Clara (Boness) Krumdieck. He would grow up with five older siblings: Walter, Carl, Elmer, Oscar, and Dorothy. The Depression was a hard time to be a farmer. The family moved from Minnesota to Oregon when Ken was 5 years old, and Louis engaged in the lumber industry. Ken would attend South Eugene High School and graduate in 1951. He married his high school sweetheart Joy White, on November 18, 1951, and thus began the adventure of three children, dozens of occupations, and various locations. For a while living in Hawaii on Waikiki, then back to Eugene…Ken and Joy would eventually live in Ashland, Oregon. He started Ken Krumdieck, Inc. in Ashland, and for over 20 years, designed and built renowned custom homes. Ken built the family home in Eugene, Ashland, Rainier, and Bend. The homes all sat on properties with beautiful mountain, valley, or river views. Ken’s knowledge of how things worked was impressive, he never shied away from attempting to build or repair anything. In addition to building homes, he enjoyed working on smaller wood projects. He built musical instruments, furniture, and several small boats. His mahogany and oak bass boat was recognized in “Wooden Boat” magazine. Sailing was another hobby, he raced dinghies and enjoyed cruising. During a short one-year retirement period, he and Joy lived aboard an Ericson 32-foot sailboat for one year cruising the San Juan Islands. Ken was incredibly well read and while he appreciated all genres, he was drawn to history and spy novels most frequently. He took up painting with watercolors later in life and his favorite subjects to paint were tall ships sailing on the ocean, lighthouses, along with quiet farm and forest scenes. His faith in God was the most important thing to Ken, he passionately studied the Bible his entire life and loved to discuss Lutheran Church Missouri Synod doctrine. In the last few years, Ken lived in Stayton and most recently, Sublimity. Ken passed away on January 3, 2022, in Sublimity Oregon. He was preceded in death by his wife Joy in 2019. He is survived by his children, Cynthia Hall, Pamela Jensen (Scott) and Kevin Krumdieck (Sharon); grandchildren, Anjanette Duke of Keizer, Oregon; Ryan Hall of Monmouth, Oregon; Tiffany Lance of Lake Oswego, Oregon; Hayley Janaway of Cornwall, United Kingdom; Kaia Hill of San Diego, California, and four great grandchildren. A private family graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Lone Oak Cemetery in Stayton. In lieu of flowers, donations to Pastor Bryan Wolfmueller of World Wide Wolfmueller: Recovering the Joy of Theology -- Wolfmueller.co/support -- would be appreciated.
