Joseph W. Schlies Jan. 14, 1919 – May 13, 2010 Scio, Oregon Joseph W. Schlies was born at Stayton, Oregon on the 14th day of January, 1919. He passed away on May 13th at his home in Scio. He was 91, the son of Adam and Josephine Schlies. Joseph lived most of his life in the Willamette Valley. He was married to Helen Singer on Feb. 16, 1983 in Lewiston, Idaho; she preceded him in death on Sept. 2, 1994. He served in the US Army during WWII as a paratrooper Airborne 11th, 328th infantry regiment of 26th infantry division. Having served in 4 major battles including the Battle of the Bulge, he received a purple heart, and 4 battle stars. He had worked as a farmer and enjoyed woodworking and was very ingenious having liked to fix things. He is survived by his son, Jack Singer of Scio; daughter, Ruth Grohs of Kent, WA; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be Sat. May 22nd at 1:30 pm at the Scio Baptist Church in Scio, OR. Interment will be private. Arrangements by Weddle Funeral Services, Stayton,OR.
