Jose (Joe) Martinez was born on June 4, 1943, in Crystal City, Texas to Jose and Isaura (Pena) Martinez. At a young age the family moved to California where they owned a strawberry farm. After high school, Joe served in the United States Airforce, as a Jet Mechanic until he was honorably discharged in 1967. Jose married his wife Palmira (Pam) of 53 years in 1968. The two moved to Lebanon, Oregon with their three boys in 1977. Joe and Pam opened a Mexican restaurant, and then he would eventually go to work for Weyerhaeuser. Where he worked in the mill, and also served as Union Steward. In his spare time, he pursued his love of flying by taking private flying lessons. Joe loved the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and target shooting. This led him and his son (Marco) to open a sporting goods store, where he worked with his family until 2013. Joe was a devoted Christian, actively serving in his church for many years. He was devoted to his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Joe passed on his strong work ethic to his children, and grandchildren. On September 25, 2021, Joe passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in passing by his parents, Jose and Isaura; and siblings, Abel, Hector, Oscar, Mary and Richard. He is survived by his loving wife, Pam; children, Joey, Marco (Karen), and Daniel (Shannon); grandchildren, Bret, Marcus, Tamsen, Alex, Dominik, Alyssa, Autum, Lotus, Rachel, Benjamin and Cameron; great-grandchildren, Maverick, Silas and Sadie; and siblings, Benny and Ada. Memorial service will be held Saturday, October 23, 11 a.m. at Southside Church of Christ, 196 Airport Rd, Lebanon, OR.
