Jose L. Rodriguez

Josè L. Rodriguez was born on August 6, 1936 in Hacienda El Porvenir, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Felipe and Estefana Rodriguez.  The family immigrated to the United States when Josè was a teenager and they would eventually settle in the Alamo, Texas area. At the age of 21 Josè met Irene Hernandez while picking Pole Green Beans in Independence, Oregon. They fell in love and soon were married in Independence, Oregon on September 14, 1957.  This union would welcome 62 wonderful years of marriage and the addition of five children, Josè, Francisco, Gilberto, Veronica, and Antonino. The family settled in Turner, Oregon where Josè would go to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad until his retirement. Family was very important to Josè and would always have them over at the house for a barbeque. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much and they always put a smile on his face.  He loved telling his family stories about his days working for the railroad and stories of growing up in Mexico. In his spare time Josè, enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, wood carving, gardening and raising cows on his small farm.  Something he always looked forward too was when him and Irene could “get away” on a mini trip or taking his wife Irene to the Casinos. On January 2, 2020 Josè passed away in Turner, Oregon surrounded by family.  He was preceded in death by his parents Felipe and Estefana; Siblings, Franciso, Juan, Ricardo, Cristobal, Heriberta, Irene and Maria Louisa.  He is survived by his loving spouse of 62 years, Irene; Children, Jose (Tina) Rodriguez, Francisco (Nina) Rodriguez, Gilberto (Maria) Rodriguez, Veronica (Bryan) Johnson, and Antonino Rodriguez; 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and sisters Juanita Farias and Gertrudes Pena
