John William Weyers September 16, 1924 January 17, 2016 Corvallis, Oregon John William Weyers, 91, passed away quietly at Regency Park of Corvallis, Oregon on Sunday, January 17, 2016. Born September 16, 1924 in Page, North Dakota, he lived in Michigan, New York, and California before retiring from NASA Ames Research Center, Mountain View, California, then moving to Corvallis, Oregon. John was a US Navy veteran serving in WWII on the USS Bremerton heavy cruiser, and as an Ensign aboard the refloated USS Pennsylvania battleship. Selected for OCS as he attended the University of Michigan and graduated in 1947 with a degree in civil, mechanical, and industrial engineering. John lettered on the UofM football team as well as shotput and long jump. He furthered his education at Syracuse University, earning a Masters in Business Administration. While he attended UofM he fell in love with Frances Jean Gates, a physical education major, and they were married on August 25, 1946, happily married for 69 years. He is also survived by Mary Anthony, sister, Alvira Weyers, sister-in-law, sons; David, Stephen, J. Michael, and Richard Weyers, daughter; Heidi Gottfried, 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. An informal family memorial was held on January 17, 2016 at the home of Heidi and Jeff Gottfried, with all five surviving children in attendance. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 2650 NW Highland Dr. in Corvallis, Oregon.
