John W. Carskadon

November 17, 1935 January 14, 2014  John was born and raised in Portland, Oregon.  He attended Holy Redeemer Catholic Grade School and graduated from  Columbia Prep High School.  He enlisted in the Navy shortly after and was assigned to the U.S.S. Lexington.  He obtained the rank of Hospital Medical Corpsman 2nd Class.  Returning to Portland after being honorably discharged in 1957, he met and married Mary OConnor in 1960.  They moved to Corvallis in 1962 where John worked for Payless Drug Store as the manager of Sporting Goods for 17 years.  He then went to work for the City of Salem Parks Department as the Head Gardener and retired in 1997.  In his spare time he found great joy in fishing, gardening and travel.  He will be greatly missed by his wife, Mary with whom he celebrated 53 years of marriage, daughter; Theresa Beers, son; Brian Carskadon, 6 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his brother, Richard.  Memorial Mass at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Sublimity and Inurnment at Willamette National Cemetery is pending.  Contributions: Serenity Hospice.  Arrangements entrusted to Weddle Funeral Services Stayton, OR.
