John (Jack) Schneider

February 16, 1926 — January 24, 2025

Born in the Bronx, N.Y.C. to George and Josephine Schneider. At the age of 17 joined the Army Air Force during WWII. After discharge he drove a bus in Harlem, N.Y.C. He joined IBM and after many courses became an associate engineer. While at IBM he was instrumental in the Apollo 13 mission by redesigning the cable system resulting in the Walk on the Moon. He also worked on the Trident Submarine system.

Jack enjoyed working in his garden and yard, making remote airplanes and bird houses.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Elks and American Legion. Jack loved to travel in his 5th wheel, visiting all of the country and Canada.

Preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanie, brother Buddy, sister Doris, daughter Linda, and son Buddy. Survived by his wife Betty, daughter Carol Miller (Joe), grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren.

Burial in Culpeper National Cemetery, VA. A mass is scheduled on March 13th at 11am at St. Mary's Catholic Church-Shaw located at 9168 Silver Falls Hwy SE Aumsville, OR 97325. Arrangements by Weddle Funeral Home, Stayton, OR.
