John J. Slatsky left this world on December 17th, 2021. Born in Youngstown, Ohio on July 14th, 1939, he left the steel mills for a drapery job in Hollywood. His illustrious career of 42 years earned him a stellar reputation. Working on “Paint Your Wagon” in 1969, he fell in love with Oregon, and bought a ranch there to raise his boys. He was also head of the drapery department on the CBS lot for 15 years. Some of his films include: Psycho (he hung the shower rings), Pleasantville, Irreconcilable Differences, The River, Death Becomes Her, Species, Last Man Standing, Wag the Dog, Blade Runner, and Wild Bill. Some of his television work included Man From Atlantis, Chips, Little House On the Prairie, and a long run on Cagney and Lacey, where he could be heard laughing with his comrades Tim Donelan and Harvey. Known for his incredible work ethic, John did personal jobs for directors and actors such as Ridley Scott and Ellen Barkin, amongst others. A lifelong member of the Russian Orthodox church in which he was married, he was also known as a fair and kind man. His devotion to his boys knew no bounds. John is preceded in death by his brother Bill and survived by his sister Marilyn, sons John, Dean, Chris, and Brian, grandchildren Emily, Alex, August, Roman, and Bowie, daughter in laws Nancy, Andrea, and a long list of friends, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
